Viva Las Losman

Well, the 5th version of the heir apparent to Jim Kelly will be playing for the new United States...err...XF... ERRR...United Football League in Las Vegas. The former 1st rounder will be playing under the tutelage of head coach Jim Fassel. Losman's goal was to play football and not ride the bench of an NFL team. Losman did have some discussions with Denver and Carolina in the off season, but decided to try the new league out and try to reinvent himself. "We're trying to have as much success as possible here, try to create some buzz..and then go through NFL free agency again next year."

It's a smart move by Losman. You're not going to learn much from sitting on the bench after you've already started half your career games and struggled. Coach Fassel, who helped rejuvenate Kerry Collins career (but also made Kyle Boller worse) is confident he can get Losman back on track. "If I had doubt that he shouldn't be a starting winning quarterback, I wouldn't take it on," Fassel said. "JP's got tremondus skills and should be a starting quarterback in the NFL. I mean, come on..I still understand you can help a guy, even Tiger Woods needs a swing coach." Did Jim Fassel just use Tiger Woods and JP Losman in the same breath? If Tiger needs a swing coach then JP needs a brain transplant.

Losman to me was the mirror image of Rob Johnson. Both Great arms and mobility, but dumb as s#$t when it came to reading defenses. Losman apologists will say that he never got a fair share with the Bills after just starting an average of 8 games for his 4 year career and that management didn't want to give him a chance, because if successful it would of meant giving JP a brand new contract in the 50 million dollar range. Oh those apologists, they still believe in JP because he decided to live in downtown Buffalo and start some sort of plant a tree day on Elmwood Avenue.

In all seriousness, If Fassel can get JP to make more then one read during his progressions on the field then JP should be able to play in the NFL. But I'm not holding my breath. At least he's going to be in Vegas. I'd take Vegas over the NFL any day of the week! It's a smart gamble for Losman and it's a lot better then carrying a clip board.

"Vegas, you need a pro team"

UPDATED NOTE- Steve Levy just announced at the end of SportsCenter the Losman signing and that Losman will be the new face of the league...um.. The League is doomed!
