AVP to stay on the sidelines

Alex Van Pelt on Sunday decided he would call plays from the Bills sideline instead of the coach’s box upstairs as he had done the previous five weeks. The logistics, communication and play flow were so smooth that the sideline is where Van Pelt intends to stay the rest of the season.

“I thought it was great,” Van Pelt said. “I actually liked it. I came down for a few reasons, one to communicate faster to the quarterback. Two to talk to the quarterback in person and make sure we’re seeing things the same way.” (Bills.com)

Mind of Joe
Not sure if you guys remember, but last year Turk Schonert was calling plays from the sideline and midway in the season decided it was better to go upstairs. His reasoning was he wanted to view the field better. I've heard this song and dance many times from Coordinators when they decide to make changes in their coordinating habits. It's either you love sitting up in the press box so you can see the field better or downstairs so you can talk to your QB. It's all Bulls#$t. If your a good coach, it doesn't matter where the hell you sit when calling the plays. I'm sure Bill Bellichick could call the plays from a jail cell with a telephone made out of a cup and wire.
