Bills vs Patriots Recap

There's always two types of Bills vs Patriots games. The Bills either get blown out or just blow it. I'm not sure if this game belongs in one of those categories. Maybe it represents a new era of Bills vs Patriots? Remember last year how the Bills lost to the Patriots by only 10 and 13 points. The Patriots aren't the same Patriots from years back, and the Bills are just..the same Bills.

But what all these games have in common is that the Bills always find a way to shoot themselves in the foot. A drop pass by Josh Reed and a stupid ass penalty by Aaron Maybin will go in the history books with McKelvin bringing the ball out of the endzone and Drew Bledsoe's naked boot-leg.

The stats and scoreboard show that the Bills were in it. However, if you watched the entire game, you would know it wasn't as close. I'm sure if the Bills tied the game, the Patriots would have just done what they did in week one. Get pissed off and realized they were playing the Bills. The drive for 7-9 is on life support, but does it really matter at this point?

Random Thoughts:

-I'm really glad that Aaron Maybin was able to convert his god awful rushing technique to special teams. The guy couldn't look more out of sync on being offsides in nullifying a Bills onside kick recovery. I'm sure if the play counted, Maybin would have bronzed his helmet for being on the field for his only defying moment of this season. How many rookies would you rather have playing in Buffalo that were picked ahead of Maybin? Pretty much everyone who was drafted from Texas or USC -

-You always hear the cliche that the stats don't tell the whole story. You could have made that case with the Bills secondary versus Tom Brady. I never thought that Brady passing for zero and eleven yards in the 1st and 4th quarter, would make me take issue with some of the defensive backs. First, Donte Whitner has absolutely no clue how to cover anyone. He played the Randy Moss pass interference play as bad as you can in the NFL. Secondly, are Maybin's celebrations a bad influence on Drayton Florence? Seriously? You have to do a Ralph Wilson Stadium leap after you knocked a pass away? My god, if Maybin gets a sack or Florence gets an interception, call the NFL, because I'm sure they will be fining the duo for excessive celebrations-

-I didn't mind Perry Fewell benching Ryan Fitzpatrick for Trent Edwards. He was looking for any sort of spark, which of course happened after Edwards was injured after getting sacked twice on his only four plays. Of course, the spark (more like a flashlight) was from Fitzpatrick, who played better in relief of Edwards. Even with a better 4th quarter performance by Fitzpatrick, I've seen enough of him this season to know that it's time to bring in Brian Brohm. As far as I'm concerned, Perry Fewell's audition is over. It's time to see what we have with some of our younger players. Is Brohm the answer? I don't know. I sure as hell know that Edwards and Fitzpatrick aren't-

-You want to pick an offensive player of the year for the Bills, It's Fred Jackson. Jackson had a nice 1st half against the Patriots, rushing for 73 yards and averaging almost 7 yards a carry. Those stats made the Bills abandoning Jackson in the 2nd half (only gaining 7 yards), even more mind boggling. Why would you decide to shy away from Jackson? You have the Green Bay practice squad on one half of your line and on the other half are guys who just got their playbook on Wednesday (Exaggerating? Yes, but you get my point). Ask any lineman what they would rather do, run or pass block? They will all say run block because it's easier. The coaching staff should have made it easier for the offense -

-I was going to write at some point last week that the Bills haven't been getting as many penalties under Fewell. Glad I shelved that article. An NFL season-high 104 yards in penalties came in the first half. Maybe they should have practice indoors? -

-As far as T.O. and his amazing two catch performance goes, I'm done with the guy. Time to put James Hardy or Steve Johnson in. Owens isn't making the team better and isn't even making an effort to help. It has taken me a while to come around to the idea of benching him, but after his Ferris Bueller type day off on Friday, it's time to cut his snaps.

-BTW, can we even get someone to ask Owens why the hell he was in Toronto, instead of being in bed with a thermometer in his mouth? Then you wonder why Buffalo fans always complain about the media not holding people accountable. If this was NYC, they'd have the paparazzi at his house-

-Seriously, I don't think Santa Claus could handle the Bills Christmas list for next year. Besides running back and some of the DB's, the Bills need an overhaul on every single level of their football team-

Bills vs Chiefs recap

Lou Saban and Hank Straham must be rolling over in their graves right now. That was as bad of a game as you can see in the NFL today. What didn't both these teams accomplish in the futility department; bad play-calling, bad throws, bad tackling, bad turnovers, bad announcers, just bad everything. The season needs to end, so the Bills can fire their entire front office, and bring in some quality players and coaches. By the way, the Bills won 16-10.

-You want to know why the Bills won this game? The KC Chiefs coaching staff decided to put the game in Matt Cassel's hands. BIG mistake. Cassel was awful today, completing 26 of 43 passes for 224 yards and 4 interceptions. It makes no sense for the opposition to pass the ball 43 times against the Bills. If you want to beat the Bills, pound the ball inside-

-I love Fred Jackson, the guy is someone that Buffalo fans could really rally around. Here's a guy who came from an unknown college and didn't start playing in the NFL till he was 26-years old. Just your classic underdog. When the guy is in the open field, it's as if he's running in slow motion, and just when a defender is about to tackle him, he glides out of the way. When the Bills can get him the ball at least 20 times a game, he becomes the Bills best weapon. Yes, I won't cr@p all over Marshawn Lynch this week. Lynch averaged over 7 yards a carry, adding to the Bills 200 yards rushing today. I still think Lynch dances way too much for my taste-

-What the hell was Donte Whitner doing on the long Jamaal Charles touchdown run? The angle he took on Charles made me wonder if Whitner thought he was chasing Ray Charles instead-

-Speaking of players being overrated. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't put up much of a fight if the Bills decided to trade Lee Evans in the off season. Lee Evans gets paid 10 million dollars a year to catch one pass a game. Evans has five catches, FIVE CATCHES in his last four football games. I'm sorry, but if Calvin Johnson can have an all-pro type year with an 0-16 team, why can't Evans? Evans, is your biggest bargaining chip on your team. If you can get what Detroit got from Dallas last year for Roy Williams (1st and a 4th), I'd do that. If Evans was making 4 million a year, I'd be cool with him playing in Buffalo. But I can think of about five other positions that I wouldn't mind seeing Evans money go to.

-86 yards? 86 YARDS passing against the Chiefs?! This is seriously the worst passing year by the Bills I've ever seen. In the last two weeks, Ryan Fitzpatrick has less than 200 yards throwing, combined! He has an amazing 59.5 quarterback rating on the season, and is surely keeping the seat warm for Brian Brohm for his game against the Falcons in two weeks. Yes, I am to the point of starting Brohm, because Fitzpatrick is just terrible. Better yet, how about having Fred Jackson take direct snaps the entire game-

-I wonder if Aaron Maybin is going to bronze his cleats and gloves after making a great tackle? Someone needs to let Maybin know that he needs to tone down his celebration until he actually makes a sack-

-Not only is Brian Moorman the MVP of the Bills this season, but he has been their best player this decade. Which isn't saying much about the state of the franchise-

-I am not too enamored with anyone playing on this team right now, but if there were some players that I wouldn't mind see playing here next year, it's George Wilson, Jarius Byrd, Terrence McGee & Drayton Florence (Sorry, Donte). The Bills are tied with the league lead in interceptions with Detroit. Considering the Bills are so terrible against the run, you'd think the opposition wouldn't pass as much as they do-

-Another reason why you would want a big named coach coming to Buffalo, Matt Cassel. Cassel sure looked good last year when he had Bill Belichick as his coach. Just saying-

-Enjoy the win Bills fans, because this will be the team's last win until 2010. No, I'm not counting the game after New Years against the Colts-

Bills vs Jets quick recap

Oh what a night! No, I'm not talking about the Bills game, but the fact that I was able to pretty much run the entire Buffalo News Bills chat. Yes, I had my day in the sun. I lived a sports fan's dream. In case you didn't know, TBN had some technical issues at the Rogers Centre last night. Once the game started, I guess the Internet went down in the press box, and Mike Harrington and Jerry Sullivan were unable to get on. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I asked the moderator if it was cool, if I could run the chat. Moderator said sure, and I was on my way. I'd have to say I was really exhausted after chatting up a storm. I'm hoping the TBN staff will send me a Christmas card, along with some of Jerry Sullivan's chili at the Wellington Pub. Here is the link to the chat. Anyways back to reality. To coin the phrase from Denny Green, The Bills are who we thought they were!!.. and that is bad.

-So much for my theory that Ryan Fitzpatrick was playing better than Mark Sanchez. Fitzpatrick was dreadful. Jim Breuer, err.. Fitzpatrick completed 9 of 23 throws for 98 yards, only 28 of those yards came after halftime. Fitzpatrick had the hat-trick when it came to missing his wide receiver targets. High, low, & sideways. You name it, Fitzpatrick was Stevie Wonder. Like I said waaaaaaaaay back in week five, the future quarterback of the Buffalo Bills isn't on this roster-

-Poor Toronto. In the two games the Bills have played in the Rogers centre, the paid..errr, free attendance have had to see the following quarterbacks: JP Losman, Chad Pennington, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Mark Sanchez, and Kellen Clemens. Only one touchdown has been thrown in the two games. Where's Doug Flutie when you need him?-

-You want to know why the Bills running back by committee doesn't work for them? All you have to do is look at the Jets two backs, Thomas Jones and Shonn Greene. Both the New York running backs have very distinct running styles. Jones runs between the tackles, while Greene is a guy who has the great speed to take it to the outside. Their styles of running can really off balance a defense like the Bills. Jackson and Lynch on the other hand, run way too similar and don't give the Bills any sort of yin & yang like it does for the Jets-

-What exactly was Perry Fewell's philosophy in using Marshawn Lynch primary in the first half, then going away from him in the second half? I've said it before, pick a running back from the duo and run him into the ground. Splitting carries hasn't worked for this team all year. There's a reason why the top four rushing games for a Bill came with Fred Jackson. It was because the team gave the ball exclusively to Jackson-

-I know everyone will come away from this game talking about how T.O. was shut down by Darrelle Revis. But I could of told that was going to happen on Monday. The biggest thing fans should be taking notice is where the hell has Lee Evans gone? One catch for 38 yards against the Jets. Four catches and less than a 100 yards in his last 3 games, COMBINED! You want to talk about a player not earning his money on the team this year, Evans is your crook. I'm getting a little sick and tired hearing that Evans is a legit number one wide. Eric Moulds had a 94-catch, 1300 yards plus season when Rob Johnson was his starter. Either way, Evans needs to step up next year and the years beyond, or he may be used in same breathe as other crooks, like Rob Johnson and Derrick Dockery-

-Almost 600 yards rushing given up by the Bills against the Jets this season. I'm not a scout, but when it comes to stopping the run, the omen is on the front seven. Way too many times this season lineman and linebackers (or converted safeties) have over pursued the run. In the offseason, the Bills either have to get new players in the front seven or dump the Cover 2 Defense-

-Whether it's Bill Cowher, Mike Shanahan, or Dennis Green, the Bills need to wipe out everyone in their football operations department. Even if the Bills bring a guy like Shanahan or Cowher, the duo is going to need a strong GM mind to bring in quality players. Way too many draft pick misses on this team. Lets not forget, players who have received phat raises since playing here. You hear me, Marcus Stroud and Lee Evans?-

-I just love how the Bulldog on WGR, was rooting against the Bills because he can't stand the team playing its games in Toronto. I wonder if he said the same thing a couple of years ago, when the Sabres played a couple of their regular season games in Rochester? Doubt that-

-Look, I've made my matters clear on the Toronto experiment. The Bills need it. Yes, it stinks that the atmosphere is like a golf tournament. But in order to keep up with the "Joness," the Bills need other revenue to make their franchise economically viable in today's NFL-

Bills vs Dolphins Recap

-Lets be honest, going into the 4th quarter, down by a touchdown, you had the same old feeling that the Bills were going to duplicate their disastrous 4th quarter collapses. But a funny thing happened today. The Bills showed a killer instinct. They not only over came the deficit, but they kicked the Dolphins a$$es. The Bills scored 24 unanswered fourth quarter points in a 31-14 win over the Dolphins-

-I've been saying for weeks now. Put Fred Jackson in the starting line-up! This had nothing to do with Marshawn Lynch's off the field problems, that a lot of Bills fans have chastised him about over the years. It's about Jackson being the better option. Jackson proved it today gaining 116 yards in total offense to go along with two touchdowns. The big key for Jackson was how many times he touched the ball, 21 times on the day. Jackson is the type of back that needs to get the ball as many times as he can to get a rhythm-

-You want to know why Ryan Fitzpatrick is in for Trent Edwards? Look no further than the game-clinching touchdown drive. If Edwards is under center, he's not going to audible into a 51-yard touchdown pass to Owens-

-I know some football fans have been drinking the Ricky Williams resurgence kool-aid. But how much can you really rely on a back that's 32-years old and hasn't been a featured back since 2003?-

-Here's what Perry Fewell is to me. Yes, I love his intensity and no I'm not counting on him being the coach in 2010. As of now, he's like the rebound girlfriend after a terrible break-up. Yes, he's way better than the girl who you didn't want to bring around your friends, but as of now, he's not exactly the one you want to bring home to mom-

-Now the only way I would entertain the thought of Fewell becoming the coach next year is pretty simple. Finish 4-1 or at least keep it competitive against the Colts and the Pats. Then, and this is a "BIG" then, take that 10 million dollars and 5% ownership you were planning on giving to Shanahan or Cowher (Which I think is a bit flawed) and spend it on the two best free agents in football. Of course, firing Guy and Modrak and hiring a competent new football department would have to happen as well-

-So this is what the hoopla about Terrell Owens has been about, almost 375 yards in his last three games. He's still good as gone next year-

-I know the big debate this week was whether Bills fans wanted the team to lose out so they would get a higher draft pick. Fans have to realize that just because your in the top five, doesn't mean your going to turn it around right away. Take a look at the last four drafts, not including 2009.

Do you want to tell me what's so sexy about having a top six pick in the draft? On this list of 24 players, I'd say Vince Young (loosely), Ronnie Brown & Matt Ryan have been franchise changers for their teams. In other words, if you want to boo your team cause they stink, fine. But think twice if it's because you want that elusive top 5 pick-

-What a bunch of hacks on the WGR post game show. Your main topic was the Bills running up the score against the Dolphins in the final 1:30 of the game? Your topic should of been whether to keep Fewell or not. Now, did I think they rubbed it in the Dolphins face? No. Now if they were running a play action pass and going for the endzone like the Patriots did two years ago, then yes. But to run a simple running play for seven yards doesn't constitute running up the score. Even if it did, it shouldn't of been an hour long topic. I don't care if the Bills are 0-11 or 11-0, just dumb producing-

-From what Schopp and the Bulldog mention, sportsmanship and running up the score will be a topic in the upcoming days. Hmm..loved to have someone call into their show and ask the hosts if they thought the Sabres were running up the score against the Hurricanes on Saturday night. Doubt the hosts would touch that one-

-BTW, I went to the game today, as I'm still feasting in Buffalo, till Thursday. I saw the dude with the Pinto in the parking lot and had a shot out of a bowling ball. Lame to be honest. I even got yelled at because I didn't drop the bowling ball the right way. Sorry dude, with the two teeth and the zoobahs-

Bills lose to Jags Recap

The coaches and players my change, but the result remains the same. The constant for the Buffalo Bills over the last four years has been their inability to go for the kill. Too many times the Bills have had control of a football game, yet their inability to finish a team off when they are against the ropes, reared its ugly head today in Jacksonville. It may of been the Bills best all-around effort since week one against the Pats, but effort only gets you brownie points in the NFL. The team just doesn't have enough talent on the roster to overcome turnovers, costly penalties & poor game management-

-I've said all along that my biggest problem with T.O. has been his effort at certain points this season. I'm also not a big fan of him going on three day excursions to Dallas and LA, when he should be in the film room trying to get better. But, you can't knock his game over the last two weeks; 12 catches, 279 yards, and one touchdown. I know the talking heads at WGR and TBN feel that it's "imperative" for the Bills to get James Hardy on the field as soon as possible. I find it amusing how Jerry Sullivan spoke of how Hardy was a complete bust last year, but now is the time to see what they have with the former 2nd rounder. I've said it before, if the Bills really want to see James Hardy play, then demote Josh Reed. Reed is a FA after this year and has been a big disappointment. Seriously though, do you think James Hardy is going to learn anything with Ryan Fitzpatrick and that god awful line playing in front of him-

-To me, the talk of the Bills benching T.O. is all about selling newspapers and radio time. I was laughing earlier this week when Mike Schopp said that T.O. was underminding Trent Edwards for throwing a temper tantrum on the sideline and should be benched for it. Why was I laughing? Because so many media experts in March said that the Owens signing was great because he would go off and yell about how the Bills were playing. In there words, he would disrupt the status quo of the team not caring. Now, it's a sin to be emotional on the sidelines. So go figure-

-How about the kick ass suit Perry Fewell was wearing for pre-tape interviews for CBS? I'd take that suit over Dick Jauron's Clint Eastwood sunglasses. Besides the wardrobe, I thought Fewell got his guys ready to play today and it showed especially on the defensive front. Holding James Jones-Drew to 66 yards rushing is an accomplishment-

-Now is Fewell going to win 100 NFL games? No, but you want to know what got me thinking he can motivate in this league? Roscoe Parish made a stupid play fielding a punt inside the 5-yard line. So what does Fewell do? He takes him out for the next punt return to let him know he made a mistake. Of course, Parish still stunk on his final return, but it was still a good message from Fewell.

-So was I the only one who took notice of Fewell pumping his fist and giving high fives to the players? In other words, I didn't really miss seeing Skeletor on the sidelines-

-Last note on Jauron, if I have to hear another ESPN or Jauron crony speak on how Dick should be mentioned in the same breath as Mother Teresa, Gandhi & the Peace Core, I'm going to vomit. It was great to hear Steve Mariucci, who coached with Jauron, say that he's friends with him and that he never should of been fired mid-season. Way to warn us that you're biased towards Jauron, and then give a complete biased statement. Bottom line, Jauron was the boot-leg version of "Robin Hood" of NFL coaches. He stole from the rich (Wilson paying his salary) and didn't give any of it to to poor (Bills fans) -

-All isn't rosy on the Fewell front though. What the hell was with the play calling towards the end of the first half? Everyone knows the Bills should of took a timeout with 20 seconds left, which would of given the Bills two cracks at the endzone inside the 10-yard line. Hell, even The Sweet Home high school football coach would of called timeout. Even Dick Jauron would of..nah, he wouldn't of-

-The poor clock management didn't stop there, the call for Fitzpatrick to spike the ball at the Jacksonville 45-yard line with less than a minute left was ill-advised. Your offense isn't good enough to waste a down, especially when you still have amicable time to get into field goal range to tie the game-

-I've run out of reasons to think why the Bills are snake bitten by injuries. Is it because Rusty Jones was fired years ago? Is it because of light practices in training camp? Are the Bills players just too undersized? Are the players not drinking enough Gatorade? I just don't know, but whoever takes over as the new czar of the Bills football operations, has to look into it-

-We all remember the movie "Major League," with Charlie Sheen. I think Ryan Fitzpatrick is the football version of Rick "Wild Thing" Vaughan. He has a good arm, but he may need some eye glasses, because he's all over the place with his delivery of the football. Too many throws were behind or at the feet of his wide receivers today-

-At least the passing game did show some life today. The Bills finally got off the snide and had a quarterback throw for over 200 yards. Now, if the Bills can just get to the 300-yard passing mark, something that hasn't been obtained since 2006. Don't hold your breathe on that one-

-Even when the Bills don't get as many penalties as they have in the past, they still find ways to get penalties at the worse possible times. The two touchdowns called back on penalties ended up being the defining moment for the Bills today. Of course, the penalties were called on the 3rd string rookie tight end and the 4th string offensive tackle-

-Even though the Bills defense only gave up seven points in the 4th quarter, it was Deja vu all over again. The defense had another 4th quarter collapse, mainly because they were on the field for almost 25 minutes of the second half. You can tell on the last drive by Jacksonville, the defense was completely gassed. Also Jacksonville going 8 of 15 on 3rd down didn't help the defense's cause -

-BTW, was I the only person yelling at the TV Screen for about 10 seconds that Garrard was going to run a quarterback draw on the 2-point conversion? Obviously, Poz must of missed that, but what else is new?-

-If the media wants to run T.O. out of the starting line-up, how about making a run at Marshawn Lynch. He's not the same back the Bills saw as a rookie two years ago. He dances way too much and just doesn't seem to hit the hold as hard as he use too. On the other hand, Fred Jackson hits the hole hard and has great field vision to find the holes-

Bills lose to Titans 41-17

-It's too bad NFL games don't go final after 3 quarters. The Bills would actually be at .500 if that was the case. It is the same thing week in and week out, the Bills play a tight bend but don't break defense, but once the 4th quarter hits, forget. The Bills gave up 24 points in the 4th quarter for the second straight week, in a 41-17 thrashing to the Titans. More to come...

Bills vs Texans Recap

- Well, the game started off nice for the Bills. The team picked up right where they left off by forcing three first quarter turnovers. Unfortunately, the way the Bills offense was playing, they needed the Texans to cough up the ball another six times to even have a chance in this game. But the biggest difference was the Bills weren't facing Mark Sanchez or Jake Delhomme. They were facing the best passing offense in the NFL. After the Texans sluggish first half start, they were able to take it to the Bills in the 2nd half and dominated in a 31-10 win-

-Didn't this game kind of feel like the Saints game from week three? The Bills hung around until the start of the 4th quarter, but then the defense was running on fumes and the rest was history. The Bills gave up 22 4th quarter points and three rushing touchdowns to Ryan Moats (Who?). But don't blame this loss on the Bills defense. When your offense gets out gained by 234 yards and gets its 1st first down of the second half with 3 minutes left in the game, there's not much more you can do to lose the game-

-So that old Frank Reigh jersey that you have with the name Fitzpatrick duck taped on the back of it, I think it's safe to say you can throw it away. The hope that some fans had with Fitzpatrick as the starting quarterback has gone up in flames. A Bills QB hasn't passed for more than 200 yards since week two. Like I've been saying, It doesn't matter if Edwards or Fitzpatrick are starting, because both guys equally suck. The future Bills QB is either playing college football or is a soon to be FA. Actually, the way the Bills have been scouting quarterbacks over the last decade, their future franchise quarterback may not even be born yet-

-I don't have a problem with the Bills going for a fake punt in the 4th quarter. Their defense wasn't stopping anyone. What I do have a problem with were the three offensive plays prior to the fake punt. Your down by seven points with ten minutes left and you decide to run three straight running plays!? What fricken NFL teams does that? That's not just being ultra-conservative, that's playing scared-

-I just want to make one thing clear on Terrell Owens. I still think the guy has a lot of football still left in him. You saw him completely out run the entire Texans team on his 29-yard touchdown run. My only issue has been that I feel like he's going through the motions when it comes to being motivated. He doesn't want to be here. He's not making the commitment in trying to make the Bills offense better. Hell, that's why he's in Dallas on his off days and is twittering while watching practices on Friday. God, I can't wait to see what he's going to do for his bye week-

-It's not just the media and his teammates Terrell Owens has to worry about, it's the statistician who works NFL games. How the hell was that fade pass to Owens in the back of the endzone a drop? The DB made a great play and had his hands all over Owens. You see, I'm not all anti-Owens-

-Want some great home statistics for the Bills? The Bills have 1 offensive touchdown in their last five home loses. You have to wonder if the dude who plays the Shout Song knows where the CD is even located, considering he never has to play it. The Bills have lost more home games over the last season and a half than they did from 1990-1994. Oh, how that guy who dresses as Elvis must be rolling over in his grave-

-So Bills fans, are you still happy the Bills told Jason Peters to take a hike when he was the 3rd least paid offensive lineman on the team? The Bills line has given up 23 sacks on the year and are already on pace to eclipse their sack total of last year by 10. Don't even ask about the running game. Fred Jackson is the only running back to go over the century mark on the year-

-God, how I miss the days of a Turk Schonert or Mike Sheppard runned offense. Interesting note after the game, Texans linebacker DeMeco Ryans told TBN how easy it was to defend against the Bills offense because they had the same kind of formations and never ran motion. Hmm, didn't Schonert say he was fired because Jauron wanted an offense that was simple. Way to go Dick!-

-Sorry Sabres fans, but the best rookie in Buffalo isn't named Tyler Myers or Tim Kennedy. It's Jarius Byrd. Byrd had two interceptions, to give him a league leading seven on the year. The first one stopped the Texans' first drive at the Buffalo 13. The second set up Owens' TD run. He may have to still work on his tackling ability, but at least he gives Bills fans something to hang their hat on (Which is like a tack)-

Bills force 4 turnovers, beat the Panthers 20-9

-It was deja vu all over again for the Bills. Just like last week, they were thoroughly outplayed, but inconsistent QB play and four turnovers propelled the Bills to a 20-9 win over the Panthers-

-I've been very outspoken for Dick Jauron to be fired (And he still should be), but you have to give the guy credit. The team could of easily packed it in after starting 1-4, but their love (Corny) for their coach has kept them only one win away from .500. The crazy part is their next three games are against winnable teams (Texans, Jags, and Titans). Could the Bills be a 6-4 team by Thanksgiving?-

-Who the hell would of thought the George Wilson and Jarius Byrd safety combo would outplay the Whitner and Scott duo? Byrd is a hawk, bird, vulture, whatever flying mammal you want to use. Regardless of whom comes back from injury, Byrd is the starting safety, period! Bryan Scott should start getting use to playing special teams. As for Whitner, Byrd has five interceptions on the year, while Whitner has three interceptions..for his career! I do not want to look too far down the road, but Byrd is making Whitner expendable. Do not forget Whitner is a free agent after next year. How about the play of "the senator" George Wilson. It's amazing to consider the guy was a converted receiever to a safety only three years ago. He has two interceptions in as many games and is a well respected leader on this team-

-The Bills were dominated on the stat sheet.Carolina had a 425-167 in total yards, a 20-9 advantage in first downs and held the ball for 34 minutes, 40 seconds. Thank god they did not decide to run the no-huddle offense.

-Now for your QB portion of the blog. Look, it doesn't matter who the starting QB was the last two weeks. When your defense forces ten turnovers, you are supposed to win! Now, who should be the starting QB? It has to be Fitzpatrick. He is 2-0 on the job and his ability to resurrect Lee Evans career (That's a joke BTW) should give him the nod over Edwards. But if you expect Fitzpatrick to be the next Frank Reigh, you are sadly mistaken. Fitzpatrick is nothing more than a game manager. I will be frank, I want the guy to start because I just cannot take more checkdowns from Trent Edwards anymore. I will say it till I'm blue in the face, the Bills future QB is not on this team-

-WTF was John Fox thinking? You are going against the worst rushing defense in the NFL and you're averaging almost five yards a carry, and you decide to have Jake Delhomme throw the ball 44 times?! Just like last week when the Jets put the game in the hands of Mark Sanchez, after the team was running all over the Bills. I never thought I say this, but Dick Jauron has outcoached the opposition for two straight weeks. Well, more like his opponents have outcoached themselves-

-Well at least the Bills got their first rushing touchdown since week 16 of last year. But where the hell has the Bills running game gone? 52 yards on 30 carries is god awful against a defense that was ranked 29th against the run. Today the Bills relied more heavily on Lynch who had 17 carries for only 40 yards. The forgotten man was Fred Jackson, who only carried the ball five times for two yards. In order to have a descent 1-2 punch at running back, you have to have two distinct running styles. Jackson and Lynch's style are the same. More importantly, they're the type of players who need to be fed the ball at least 20-25 times a game. They aren't the type of backs who are going to break off 40 yard runs. I think in order for the Bills to be successful, they either have to run wildcat type formations or just have one every down back. The committee just is not working-

- Here's some stats for you. Did you know that Keith Ellison is number two in tackles in the NFL? How about the Bills winning two straight road games for the first time since 2004 and are 4-3 in their last seven games on the road. Don't even ask about homefield advantage. The Bills are 1-7 in their last 8 games in Orchard Park-

-Is it safe to say that the Bills last 3 games have been some of the worst quarterback play in the history of mankind? I'm including Derek Anderson, Sanchez, and Delhomme. We have seen a game with a QB completing just two passes, a QB throwing five interceptions, and another QB whose three interception output didn't even match his season high. See fans, the QB play in other cites can be worse.

Bills send Jets crashing in 16-13 O.T. win

-Not sure what I want to make of this game. Am I happy the Bills won? Yes. Does this team still have serious issues? Yes. Should they fire Dick Jauron? Hell yeah! How the hell do you win a game giving up over 300 yards on the ground?! How the hell do you only win a game by only 3 points when you have 6 interceptions?-

- I know the talk of the town is going to be who should start at QB. I think you have to go with Fitzpatrick. Look, am I a big Fitzpatrick fan? Hell no. He was terrible last year in Cinncy, and had a passing rating of less than 60% today. But it's not really about RF, it's about Edwards. Is Edwards the better QB? Probably, but when you've struggled as bad as he has you have to think about the change. But to me, the topic is nothing more than a way to sell papers and air time on talk shows. This team still has QB issues no matter who starts. In other words, the Bills QB of the future isn't on this team.-

-Thought the secondary played a great game with 6 interceptions tying a Bills record. Of all the crap the Bills scouting department gets, the one thing their good at accomplishing is finding decent players in the secondary.The most impressive defensive back was rookie Jarius Byrd. Byrd had two interceptions on the day, giving him 3 in his last 2 games. I don't see how you can bench Byrd when Bryan Scott comes back from injury-

-I was ready to throw my computer or my couch through the TV screen during Jauron's conservative play calling during the last minute of regulation. How the f$%k do you call two straight running plays at the Jets 30 yard line with a half a minute left in regulation? You're going into the wind, Dick! Did Jauron forget about the Cleveland game from last year? Then he does the exact same thing in O.T. when the Bills were facing a 3rd and long at the Jets 30 yard line. I know some Bills apologists (Ron) will bemoan the fact they won, but it shouldn't of been that difficult. Jauron should be kissing Mark Sanchez's ass and Ryan Lindell's foot-

-Talk about a tale of two halves. I was ready to fire Bobby April after the Bills special teams imploded in the first half. How the hell do you have too many men on the field during a punt giving the Jets a first down!? Then to top it off, Josh Reed and Fred Jackson looked as if they had never fielded a punt (Because they haven't) when the ball glazed Josh Reed's foot and Fred Jackson sat their in awe as if he saw a ghost. But the Bills special teams finally got it together in the second half, pinning the Jets deep inside the 5 yard line on a punt and getting a nice return from Fred Jackson to set-up the game tying TD drive-

-I still think Poz is vastly overrated as a linebacker. I know he had a big INT in O.T. and played with half an arm. But when it comes to going east and west, he just doesn't have the speed you need. BTW, how the hell do you give up almost 1,000 yards in rushing over the last 4 games? The Bills have made Pierre Thomas, Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Jamal Lewis, and Thomas Jones look like the OJ Simpson's of the worlds. I'm not feeling next weeks match-up against the Panthers, who can run the ball pretty effectively-

-I will give the Bills credit, they never quit. They lost their starting QB after being made into a sandwich by half the Jets team. The Bills sideline looked more like a doctor's office waiting to get treatment. I think a fan could of played a fun drinking game in deciding who the next injured Bill was going to be. There were moments, especially in the first half when the Bills could of easily been down by 2 touchdowns. But their wil..err Mark Sanchez's errors kept them in the game long enough. I know most fans must of been thinking here we go again after Lindell's game winning attempt at the end of regulation sailed wide right. Luckily, the Jets had some stupid penalties in O.T. and the Bills believed in themselves. God only knows, they're the only ones that do-

-The Bills got a couple of monkeys off their backs today. Say goodbye to their losing streak against AFC East opponents (8) and teams with 3-4 defenses (10). Still waiting for the Bills to get their first rushing touchdown this season. And don't even ask about a Bills QB going over 300 yards-

-That crashing sound you heard was Rex Ryan and Mark Sanchez's honeymoon ending. The crap I've heard from Jets fans acting like Ryan is the next Bill Parcells (plus 300lbs) was propaganda at its finest. And if I have to hear fans compare Sanchez to Broadway Joe, I'm going to vomit. The only thing the two of them have in common is their love for the NYC nightlife-

-Did anyone tell Dan Fouts and Dick Enberg that it wasn't a fake field goal in OT? How the mighty have fallen. Enberg use to call Super Bowls and Fouts, well..he was the 2nd biggest mistake in Monday Night Football history next to Dennis Miller-

-I know a win is a win, but I'm passed the point of getting excited when the Bills win ugly against average teams. Beat Carolina and Houston which could be winnable games, and then you'll get me talking. Wait, those are average teams. Doh! Just get me to .500 guys!

The Best...err..worst of the rest

-Coming into the game the Bills had the 2nd most penalties in the NFL. I think it's safe to say we will have the number one spot for next week. 13 penalties, 9 of them were false starts. How the f#$k do you get 9 false starts on the offensive line when you're playing at home! What, you couldn't concentrate on Trent Edwards snap count because Terrell Owens dancing was distracting?-

-If I ever have to hear a Bills coach or player say they had a great week of practice, I'm going to vomit. Teams that have a great week of practice don't have 9 false starts!-

-Congratulations to the Bills run defense! You finally held an opponent to under 200 yards rushing. Of course, you gave up 171 yards and made 54-year old Jamal Lewis look like the 2003 version-

-You think JP Losman is laughing somewhere?-

-Don't tell me to get excited because Terrell Owens had 4 catches for 44 yards today. And I don't care if he was dancing or enticing the crowd to cheer on crucial plays. That's not worth 6.5 million dollars-

-So much for Fred Jackson's stellar season. Since Lynch has returned, Jackson has rushed for 48 and 30 yards in back-to-back games-

-Is Aaron Maybin still holding out?-

-So let me get this straight. The Bills starting linebacking core is now Keith Ellison, Jon Corto, and Ashlee Palmer. Wow! And I thought Keith Ellison, Poz, and Kawika Mitchell was bad-

-Hey, I won't be all negative. If there was one player I liked on the team today, it was safety Jarius Byrd. Byrd, filling in for Donte Whitner, was all over the field today with 7 tackles and 1 interception. The Bills may have no depth on the offensive line and the linebacking core, but their secondary back-ups can play.

Wilson HOF ceremony never happened

Going into Sunday's game, the big debate was whether the fans would boo or cheer Ralph Wilson upon getting his HOF ring at halftime. There were boos alright, lots of them. But none of them were for Wilson getting his ring. Why? Because the ceremony never happened.

Bills owner Ralph Wilson decided late last week that he didn't want to take part in a planned halftime ceremony to present him with his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring. Joe Horrigan, the vice president of communications for the Hall of Fame, confirmed that in a phone call with the Buffalo News after the game.

"Friday morning, we got a call from Marc Honan (the Bills' VP of marketing and broadcasting), saying Ralph was not feeling up to doing it and that we would reschedule," Horrigan said.

Yeah sure..I'm sure you could flip flop Friday morning with Sunday afternoon around 2:15 PM when the Bills were getting their asses handed to them. What a joke! If this really did go down like the Bills PR said it did, wouldn't they have told the general public about it?

Sitting on the HOF website is Wilson's wrinkled up kisser with a HOF ring. It was up allllllll weekend long people. Don't you think the website would of took it down? This is an NFL site, not a crappy blog.

Now for exhibit C, The Bills didn't even have any sort of halftime entertainment, not even the busted Jills or the crappy band from Little Valley High School came out.

Lets just call a spade a spade, Wilson didn't want to hear the music. He knew if he went down to stadium level he would of been unmercifully booed. I wrote earlier that it was interesting that Bills.com decided not to post the announcement. My reasoning was because they didn't want fans to think about whether they should boo Wilson or not on the way to the game. Lets rephrase it, they didn't announce it because if the Bills were playing like crap they could just use the we were too dumb to announce that Wilson changed his mind.

Wilson made the following statement hours after the Bills lost:

"The focus of today's game should be about the team and the fans," Wilson said. "I think most of our fans know that I've been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame."

How humble of Mr. Wilson. This is the same guy who refuses to get extra revenue by renaming his stadium because he loves the sight of his name on it. Well, the sight of the Bills and their cheap owner is making me sick.

Roscoe Parrish must be dealt..again

So while you're calling Peter King about whether he thinks fans should be happy with Edwards, see if he still thinks Roscoe Parrish is a dynamic football player, who needs to get the ball in his hands. If I'm Russ Brandon or Ralph Wilson, or whoever the hell runs 1 Bills Drive, I'm working the phone seeing if I can get an offensive lineman or a linebacker who has legs that can move from side to side for Parrish.

Parrish has become Dante Hall, as in Dante Hall with the St. Louis Rams. He's either taken too many hits over the years or he just doesn't care about being a punt returner anymore (At least for the Bills). His spin-a-roonie move that cost the Bills almost 20 yards in field position was awful. His attempt at fielding the ball on a hop with less than 3 minutes remaining with mindless. That's what happens when you don't have the skills to return anymore, you just try too hard to make a play.

It boggles my mind why the Bills continue to play Parrish, for two reasons:
1) You still have Terrence McGee who is arguably one of the best kick returners in Bills history.
2) Parrish is a FA at the end of the year, so why not play Steve Johnson to get him experience.

Parrish doesn't want to be here anymore. He's lost interest being a Bill and thinks he's the next Santana Moss. I'm hoping he gets his wish.

Edwards must get benched

Someone may want to call Peter King and ask him if he wants to rephrase his comment after week 2, saying Bills fans should be happy with Trent Edwards. I'm done with captain check down.

How the hell can you guide your team to one touchdown in the last 3 games? You want to know what makes it worse? You did it against 3 teams whose defenses are bad to average at best. The Browns were ranked dead last for god sakes!

Where the hell is Lee Evans? His only catch was a fricken check down shovel pass. I never thought I say this, but Edwards is playing worse than JP Losman ever did. Hell, give Kelly Holcomb a call! 

Edwards QB rating over the last 3 games goes as followed: 56.4 vs the Saints, 51.0 vs the Dolphins, and 52.1 vs the Browns. That's 1 touchdown and 5 interceptions over that span. Oh, and lets throw in getting sacked 12 times as well.

How could you have two pro bowl caliber players like Owens and Evans and not be able to get them the ball? And still the duo has as many TD's as Aaron Schobel and Ryan Denney. Edwards has completely lost confidence. Every throw the guy makes you have to hold your breath.

When Edwards actually completes a pass of 18 yards through the air, it's as if we should have a parade for him. But no worries about ordering the parade floats, because Edwards only completed 3 passes over 10 yards today. BTW, Edwards? You're not a Bills fan? Well just so you know, you aren't a favorite of theirs either.

It's time to say goodbye to Edwards and say hello to the Ryan Fitzpatrick era! ugh..well at least they will admit the team is deciding Edwards is not the long term solution to the team. It can't get any worse with Fitzpatrick as your QB, can it?

Bills lose to Browns 6-3...zzzzzzzz...

Man, you want to know what torture is? Try going to a NYC sports bar and it's covered with NFL fans from all 32 NFL teams. You hear the cheers in one corner and it's Giants fans yelling for Ahmad Bradshaw scoring 2 touchdowns. In another corner, you have Steelers fans cheering for Heath Miller scoring a touchdown. Then at the bar you have steak heads cheering because Donavan McNabb scored 3 first half touchdowns. Hell even Bengals fans..BENGALS FANS! Were cheering for their team.

Then you come to my table, zzzzzzzzzz......zzzzzzzzzz.. fans walking over laughing when they look up to the TV and see False start after false start, Trent Edwards running for his life, Derek Anderson completing just 2 passes (and winning!!). Then the cudagra, Roscoe Parish muffs a punt, game over. Bills lose in an epic battle by the score of 6-3.

It was a comedy of errors by both teams. I wrote earlier this week that the worse team would lose this game. However, I failed to consider the other equation, intelligence. The dumbest team lost today. Smart teams don't get 13 penalties, smart teams don't fumble the football with 3 minutes left in the game, Smart teams don't keep Dick Jauron on as head coach.

I know that firing Dick Jauron won't do anything as far as the future of the team goes. Like I said, firing Jauron is like putting a band-aid on a gun shot wound. But at least for one day I'll be happy they did something. Jauron must go. And he must go now!

Dolphins drown the Bills, again

So which QB was the one starting his first NFL Game? It sure looked like Trent Edwards never seen a NFL defense in his lifetime watching the game today. The Bills played their worse game of the year, in a 38-10 thrashing against the Dolphins. It was so bad that I left my Astoria, Queens bar at the start of the 4th quarter. I couldn't even muster enough energy to sip from my Blue Moon beer it was so bad.

The Bills had the ball for just 22 minutes, 51 seconds in the game. Buffalo had only 10 first downs and 206 total yards. Miami had 25 first downs, rushed for 250 yards and had 336 total. The Bills were also just 1 for 11 on third down while Miami was 11 of 19.

It was a disaster. More to come..

Orvel Redenbacher must be rolling over in his grave today. Jerry Sullivan wrote earlier today, that a Bills fan dumped a box of popcorn on Terrell Owens head, while he was walking up the Bills tunnel after the game. I wonder if Kawika Mitchell will twitter again about how Bills fans haven't been on their best behavior over the last 2 weeks. 

Maybe next week someone will dump a box of cereal over Owens head. Not a classy way for Bills fans to show their frustration. If you really want to piss Owens off, don't watch his reality show. 

WTF is wrong with the Bills return game?

I know last week I blogged about how I didn't think the Bills should trade Roscoe Parrish. Well after this week, maybe it's time to move him. Parrish has looked lost out there. Parrish isn't even ranked in the top 30 for punt returners! He's averaging 2.7 yards a punt return...that's not a typo. 2.7 YARDS! 

Maybe Parrish is starting to become the next Devin Hester and Dante Hall. Remember how good both guys were at one time, and then boom! They take a couple too many hits and are promoted or demoted to a wide out spot. 

Dante Hall was the biggest example of this. At one point he was considered a MVP candidate for the Chiefs and then became a hasbeen at the age of 27. A player as small as Hall can't take that many hits over a career. Parrish, who is only a inch taller than Hall is starting to look very tentative (ugh, there's that word again) on returns and doesn't seem to have the same burst he had the last couple of years. 

Another reason could be the mental aspect of Roscoe's game. Maybe Parrish is starting to think he's too good to be a returner and doesn't want to work on his game to become better. Not to mention he feels he's being underutilized as a receiver, and we've seen what happens to wide outs (T.O.) when they don't feel like they are being involved enough.  They lose interest. 

But you can't put all the blame on Parrish. You have to wonder how much the new NFL rule of outlawing kickoff wedges has effected the Bills return game. Take a look at the majority of Bills returns over the years, they've all been manufactured by the wedge. I can't remember Terrence McGee or Leodis McKelvin breaking tackles and stopping on a dime to deek someone out. They get the ball and the follow their wedges. If Bobby April is this genius with special teams, he needs to hit the drawing board. 

It seems like the days of the Bills special teams being their main weapon may be drawing to a close. Actually in comparison to the offense, special teams is more like a pellet gun in comparison to the squirt gun the Bills offense represents. 

Trentative Edwards has returned

So the blame game I've been playing about what's wrong with the offense has moved to Trent Edwards. Look, I don't mind if you have to do some check downs during a course of a game if warranted, as in you're running for your life. But when Jason Fine and Derek Schoman are becoming your goto targets, you have issues. 

Lee Evans has become a glorified possession receiver and T.O. is starting fights with Rodney Harrison on Twitter. 

Someone needs to explain to me how Kurt Warner, Big Ben, and Tom Brady can always get the ball to their top wides. Hell, Randy Moss without Wes Welker was able to catch 12 balls yesterday. 

Great QB's know how to get the ball to their best players. I can handle if some games that doesn't happen, but how many times do we have to talk about Evans or Owens not being involved enough. 

It's time for Edwards to figure out what kind of QB he wants to be. Does he want to be the QB who throws screen passes on 3rd and 13 or does he want to be a gunslinger? If it's the latter, then Edwards needs to shed the check down crap  and start taking chances down the field. I'm sick of blaming AVP and Turk Schonert for the futility Edwards has shown.

Who the hell would Charlie Weiss and Josh McDaniels be without Tom Brady? Look at how pissed off Brady was yesterday on the sideline about the Pats offense in the first half. Edwards needs that! He's starting to resemble Dick Jauron in his mannerisms and comments. Oh, we just have to look at the film and execute. 

F$%k the film and executing. Great QB's in this league demand the best out of themselves and teammates. I'm starting to think Edwards tentative play style is almost a mirror image of how he reacts to the offense not playing well. 

Edwards more then likely won't have these sort of weapons at his disposal ever again, considering T.O. is leaving after the year. It's time for Edwards to lay it out and earn that next contract. If he doesn't, he may be joining JP Losman in the UFL. 

The O-line comes up short

Did Geoff Hangartner all of a sudden become the Mitch Williams of centers? The dude totally forgot how to snap the ball out of shotgun. When you are playing a team that uses the "46", you know they are going to blitz at least 5-6 guys.

How many times did we see Edwards squat down to his feet and receive the ball from center and look up and see a defender barreling down his throat?

That was one of the many problems the Bills line had today. The line who overachieved the first two weeks of the season, finally looked their age. Not only did they look their age, but they are starting to have the health of a 90 year-old.

Demetrius Bell went down with an injury and was replaced by Chris Chambers. How sad is it that Chambers has more pro years under his belt than 3/5's of the starting offensive line. In just two weeks the Bills have lost both their starting tackles to injury.

But at this point, it could of been Karl Malone or Tom Chambers in there, it just didn't matter. Edwards was sacked 4 times today (Season high).

Not only did Edwards have to worry about getting the ball from Geoff and having a Saints helmet removed from his ass, but he had no help from the Bills running game.

Fred Jackson finally cooled down and carried the ball 18 times for 70 yards. But you can't fault Jackson for his day. Jackson wasn't getting much help up front. Jackson's great vision was blinded by the line's inability to run block. It seemed like every run Jackson had was met with contact behind the line of scrimmage.

The line may have their biggest test next week when they play against the Dolphins 3-4 defense. Even though the Dolphins have struggled this season, the Bills don't match-up well against their defense. The thought of Jerry Porter and Jason Taylor 1 on 1 with Chambers and Jonathan Scott, doesn't exactly sound like Bruce Smith versus Anthony Munoz.

Owens is getting on my nerves

I had said after week 1 that the Terrell Owens honeymoon in Buffalo was over. Now I think we can start filling the divorce papers. And this has to do with both on and off the field issues.

As far as on the field goes..Hell, all of the Bills skill guys (besides Jackson) have struggled. But if there is one thing I know about Bills fans, they can't stand when a player starts bitching and talking about non-related football issues, but it's another when you're a struggling on the field. Look at some of the quotes Owens has said over the week.

Owens: On the Bills staying in Buffalo:
"I would love it," he says. "I mean, honestly, I think it would be great if the team stayed here. The only negative is — this is my first year, this is just me speaking out loud — but I think it should be an inside facility. They should be playing in a dome."

Mind of Joe
I had said earlier that I didn't mind the quote, because 99/100 players would say the same thing. The only people who want the Bills to play in the snow is Mr. Plow. But I've read message boards and some media people who start getting teary eye when players diss playing in the cold weather.

"After the season is over I'm going to take some classes,and I'm probably going to try to link up with Dwayne Johnson, the Rock, and Chris Rock and some other guys, Morris Chestnut. I'm good friends with Jamie Foxx and see where it goes."

But hey, I'd of loved being an actor and I'm all for going out and doing pet projects, but not when Derek Schoman has 5 more catches than you do for the season! So great, now that we have all of T.O's views on acting, snow, and the media we can get to his thoughts on football related material.

Owens used that answer 4 times during his post-game conference. One more reference and it would of tied the number of catches he has for the season.

Owens: Pressed by Jerry Sullivan on Trent Edwards not looking his way.
"I don't want to answer that, because whatever I say you guys are going to turn it to however you want to say"

Great, take out your animosity on the local media that stuck up for you when ESPN decided to bury you after your comments on Edwards. Does T.O. even know that ESPN doesn't even attend the Bills press conferences? Does he even know who Jerry Sullivan is? Of course not, because he doesn't care what Bills fans think, he only thinks about the T.O. fans. That's a big difference.

So now that we got the football questions out of the way for Sunday, lets go to what Owens is thinking about at around 7:30pm

Of course, Owens would like to know whose playing on primetime, that's what he cares about, being seen by millions of people. As far as being hungry, I'm surprised he didn't do a shameless plug for his cereal.

Here's the deal. Going into the season and even back to when Owens signed with the Bills, I didn't care if Owens was going to star in 30 reality shows and come out with his own candy bar. I wanted him to produce. So far in 3 games, he hasn't. Once you stop producing, I could give a crap what your extra curricular activities consist of.

I didn't get on the Owens bandwagon because he was going to shine a star on Buffalo because of his reality show. Hell, I don't care if he or the other 53 players on the roster hate living in Buffalo and find the nightlife to be awful. I want a winner! I want a player who is going to catch 70 balls for 12 touchdowns.

Owens may of made a lot of noise during the season off the field, but he sure as hell hasn't done much on it. And until he does, He's on my hit list. But Owens doesn't care about what his critcis think of him, via twitter.
