When did Robie get soooo boring

During the mid to late 90's, Empire Sports was my version of a wet dream for Buffalo Sports coverage. Sure they showed some bias towards the Sabres (both owned by Rigas), but it was great to get at least 6 hours daily of original TV programming about Buffalo sports.

Leading the way was Hockey Hotline with Mike Robitaille and Brian Blessing. The show did HUGE numbers for Empire and followed all Sabres games. But even with Empire being bias towards Sabres, I always thought Robie was more straight forward than anyone else on the channel.

Obviously we all know what happen with Empire, and now the Sabres, actually Mr. Mulligan thinks that 3 guys talking about hockey is just way to boring for his taste. Now Robie has been regulated to mostly intermission reports and the 20 minute post-game wrap for home games.

If you want to hear Robie now, he's on WGR weekly for about an hour. And that's where my beef comes from. Maybe, I've grown older but it seems like he's become like a Larry Quinn JR. For instance, today all he talked about was how he didn't like the Flyers, Rangers, or Canadians. Gee Robie, can you pretty much just say all the teams that spend money in FA you hate, like Larry.

He hardly ever calls out any of the Sabres on the roster, he always shies away from critiquing Sabres players. The one thing I hate..HATE..is when media members go after a player when he's been moved from the team. Robie never went after Kotalik or Max when they were here, at least not as hard as he should have. But once they were jettisoned, the flood gates were open.

Maybe I'm just bored today, but he just doesn't say much to appeal to me. I know he's a great analyst when he talks about being tough, and we all know Sabres fans love anything that has the word "tough" involved.

Any thoughts on Robie?
